Andthat'soneofthefirstremarkableaspectsofthisoeuvre;inspiteofthepoliticalsubjectofthefilm,thepowerfulimagesandlyricism(astonishingandbeautifulshotcompositions),especiallyduringthefirstpartofthemovie,preservetheartisticmeritsentirelywhileservingapropagandapurpose.Thesecondremarkableaspectofthefilmisthedichotomybetweentheoldandnew,thefighttoimprovethelotofDameMarfaandhercountrymen.TherearemanydiscussionsbecauseitisnoteasyeveninRussiatochangeancientandconservativecustoms.Therearesuperbmetaphorsandsocialcriticism(illiteracy,bureaucracy,religiosity)whichperfectlyfitthefilm,andlastbutnotleast,StaroyeINovoye,isakindofarchaicdocumentaryaboutancientcustomsestablisheddeeplyinoldRussia,thoseonesthatourheroinemustfightagainst.Andthereisalsoalotaboutagriculture(veryenlighteningforthisGermancount),especiallyaboutharvestingandhowtofattenRussiancowsorpigs(literally,nopunhere…).
